Nurturing and Creative Hands-On Learning Activities for Children of Colorado State University Parents

The Sunshine House and Colorado State University are excited to announce that the University Children’s Center will now be called The Sunshine House at Colorado State University.

The University Children's Center offers a program of play and learning activities for children ages 6 weeks to 6 years. Whatever our age, much of our learning is through discovery. Children at the Center will be guided by loving caregivers in the discovery of themselves, their environment, and their relationships with others.

Our program aims to assist children in developing to their fullest intellectual, physical, social, and emotional potentials through free play, structured activities, and on-going interaction with the staff. The Children’s Center serves to supplement and strengthen the family's child rearing capacities. In order to extend the home experience, we expect the involvement of parents, including reporting on your child's daily condition and general progress at home. In return, the center will provide you with daily observation reports and be able to provide the best possible care for your child. Flexibility in meeting each child’s needs, individual attention (and lots of it), and consistency of caregivers are of primary concern to us in providing quality childcare.

We are located on the campus of Colorado State University. Parents are welcome to visit the center throughout the day. Children of different ages are given opportunities to play and learn together. Our staff works to supplement and strengthen parent- child relationships. Two-way communication between parents and staff is an integral part of our program. A caregiver will discuss your child's activities with you and provide you with daily parent reports.

The University Children's Center (privately owned and operated by Sunshine House) is directed by Christy L. DeLorme, M.Ed., CSUkids@ColoState.edu. All of the staff are well qualified in the area of child development. They are professional, caring individuals selected for their experience with, and commitment to young children. A registered nurse, specializing in maternal and child health, is a staff consultant. She is available to meet with parents as needed.
